Tank setup

Minimum Tank Size: 75 gallons for a single adult bichir. Larger tanks (100+ gallons) are recommended if you plan to house multiple bichirs or other tank mates.

Bichirs are active swimmers and grow up to 14–16 inches, so they require plenty of horizontal swimming space.’

Water Parameters

Temperature: 75–82°F (24–28°C) , pH: 6.0–8.0 (neutral to slightly alkaline)

Filtration: Use a powerful filter (e.g., canister filter) to maintain excellent water quality. A slow current is preferred, as bichirs are used to calm waters.

Oxygenation: Moderate; bichirs can breathe atmospheric air but benefit from good aeration.
