Neon Platy

Neon Platy are among the most brilliant freshwater fish, with basic colors ranging from mild yellows to deep black and many hues in between. 

There are several shades within each color group, as well as a variety of names used to characterize them. Platies frequently exhibit many hues as well as a variety of tints in the same fish.

The slow-moving waters of canals, ditches, and warm springs are preferred for X. maculatus. It is omnivorous, eating both plants and small crustaceans, insects, and annelid worms. Breeders have created a plethora of color variants (for example, orange, red, yellow, red/black, and black/white) that are popular aquarium fish among hobbyists. 

The platyfish is a common name for the southern platyfish. Platys are simple to care for and ideal for a communal aquarium. They reach adulthood in three to four months in captivity and reproduce quickly, with females giving birth to 20-40 young at a time. The fish typically offered in pet stores is a mix of X. hellerii and X. maculatus, not a pure strain of X. maculatus.

In general, males with sword-shaped tails are referred to as swordtails. Otherwise, they are referred to as platy. The color and shape of fins vary greatly in the aquarium trade.

The platyfish is indigenous to Central America and Mexico. The southern platy fish (Xiphophorus maculatus) and varied platy fish are the two most frequent platy fish species in the pet trade (Xiphophorus variatus).

These platies are frequently interbred with one another or with swordtail species. There are several types of varied and southern platy that have been selectively developed, including the wagtail, tuxedo, comet, and rainbow platy. 

The platy fish found in the wild are less colorful than those found in the pet sector today. Both species are abundant in the wild and well-liked by aquarists. 

Platys are ideal planted tank tropical fish since they are small, quiet, and undemanding. This strain has a short round body (similar to a balloon form) with a vivid red hue. These fish nibble on algae in your tank on occasion, assisting with modest algae control. This item includes a pair of balloon platy that you may breed in your planted tank.
