Lyretail Guppy (Male)The Poecilia reticulata guppy has numerous distinctive varieties that have been created through many years of meticulous, selective breeding, including the Lyretail Guppy.

Lyretail Guppy, as its popular name suggests, has a deeply forked or lyre-shaped tail that gives it a very distinctive appearance.

It has a highly varied colour pattern, with confetti-like patches of green, yellow, and red colouring that amusingly accent its light, silver-gray body hue. This unusual type of guppy is a terrific addition that will give any freshwater community aquarium personality.

A minimum 10-gallon aquarium is needed for the Lyretail Guppy. It is a fairly calm fish that should live in a tank with other fish that have similar personalities.

Despite it's  hardiness and tolerance for slight variations in water characteristics, it is important to monitor the water's temperature, pH, and nutrition levels. This robust and active fish is a great choice for new hobbyists.

Being an omnivore it needs both meaty foods and algae-based diets to survive. Guppies will get the right nutrients from an algae-based flake food, freeze-dried bloodworms, tubifex, and brine shrimp.
