Guppies are native to South America and can be found in both highland streams and brackish rivers. Wild Guppies can be found all over the world, including Barbados, Trinidad, Singapore, Venezuela, and the United States.

Guppies are unable to change their gender. The anal fins are an easy way to determine male and female guppy live-bearers apart. Males have a gonopodium that resembles a stick, whilst females have a fanned anal fin.
Guppies are livebearers, they will reproduce in large numbers. Females can retain sperm for up to 6 months and can have 10 to 30 fry every 6 weeks. Males have a modified anal fin called the gonopodium and can be sexed after around 5 weeks.
