Description
Golden Nuggets Pleco (L177) 4": The family Loricariidae includes the "armored catfish," also known as the "pleco" fish. These fish come from a wide variety of families, including Ancistrus, Baryancistrus, Chaetostoma, Hypostomus, Leporacanthicus, Panaque, Peckoltia, and Pseudancistrus. They are referred to numerous as "suckerfish" because of the state of their body and mouth and are frequently sold as green growth eaters despite the fact that large numbers of them eat little green growth. Pelecos have their own unique naming system that distinguishes them by "L-number" or "LDA-number" in addition to the two-part scientific names that are used for all living things. Even though this is not an "official" way to name things, hobbyists and collectors like to use it.
Plecos typically have a flattened body and a larger, rounder head. Many have strong spines in their fins and even along their bodies, and the body is covered in hard plates. The pleco uses its mouths, which are on its underside, to snag food from hard surfaces and aid in maintaining its position in the water flow.
As algae-eaters, plecos are frequently purchased by novice and experienced aquarists alike. The majority of plecos do not consume algae and also require other foods in their diet. A few common, smaller plecos from the genera Ancistrus, Peckoltia, and Otocinclus can control algae without eating live plants. Many more are omnivores, which consume both plant matter and meat, carnivores, which primarily consume meat, or scavengers, which consume anything they can find. Some plecos, particularly those of the Panaque genus, even consume wood as part of their diet, and aquarium decor should include wood.

II. You would love this fish because...

The L177 Goldseam Gold Nugget is the most colorful and vibrant of all the Gold Nugget Plecos and has been a popular aquarium fish for a long time. These fish, which are found in Brazil's rocky, warm, and fast-flowing Xingu and Iriri rivers, require somewhat specialized conditions to thrive in an aquarium, so they might not be the best choice for the typical community tank. They thrive in water that is warm (80 degrees Fahrenheit), well-oxygenated, and has a moderate to strong current. Because they are shy when kept alone, it is best to keep multiple fish together with plenty of hiding spots. They will eat vegetables and foods made from algae, but they will also eat carnivorous diets and frozen bloodworms.

III. Is this fish species peaceful or hostile?

This species is generally peaceful, but it can be quite territorial toward its own kind and other species that are similar to it.

IV. Species compatibility

Medium sized characins, some of the more robust Corydoras catfish species, and many rheophilic cichlids.

V. How to feed this species?

Golden Nuggets Plecos are not picky eaters and ought to eat anything that is offered to them. Provide them with high-quality flake or pellets for their primary diet, and supplement this with algae wafers. When they are young, they tend to choose more herbivorous foods, but as they get older, they will need more meat.
