Tank Setup

Tank Size: Minimum of 75 gallons for a single fish, larger if housing multiple.

Water Parameters: Temperature: 24-28°C (75-82°F) pH: 6.0-7.5

Hardness: Soft to moderately hard water.

Filtration: Use a strong filter for clean water but ensure a gentle current as they prefer calm waters.

Substrate: Fine sand or gravel to mimic their natural habitat.

Decorations: Include driftwood, rocks, and plenty of hiding spots. Floating plants can help diffuse light.

Lighting: Moderate lighting as they prefer shaded areas.

Species compatibility

Bichirs (Polypterus spp.): Slow-moving, bottom-dwelling fish with a prehistoric appearance. They tend to keep to themselves.

Large Loaches (e.g., Clown Loach): Active bottom dwellers that can tolerate occasional territorial displays. Groups of 5 or more help reduce stress.

Plecos (Larger Varieties): Peaceful algae-eaters that stick to tank surfaces. Avoid small plecos, as they might become snacks.

Rope Fish (Erpetoichthys calabaricus): Another bottom-dweller that is peaceful and often stays out of the Channa's way.

Severum Cichlids: Hardy and semi-aggressive cichlids that can hold their ground without provoking the Channa.

Giant Danios: Fast-swimming fish that occupy the upper water column, reducing direct competition.

Rainbowfish (Large Varieties): Peaceful, colorful fish that tend to stay active in mid-to-upper water levels.

Avoid

Tetras, Guppies, or Dwarf Gouramis, Flowerhorn cichlids, large Oscars, or Red Devils, Tiger barbs or Serpae tetras
