Description

Fire Red Eel: One species of eel that is popular in the aquarium trade is the fire red eel (Mastacembelus erythrotaenia).

This species is not red, but rather has a silver or light brown body with orange or yellow accents. They can grow up to 20 inches in length and require a large aquarium with plenty of hiding places and swimming room.

They are also known to be relatively peaceful with other fish and can be kept with other non-aggressive species.

It's important to research any species of fish or eel thoroughly before keeping them as pets to ensure that you can provide the proper care and environment for them to thrive.

II. You would love the fish because…

Fire eels have the same appearance as eels. Its lengthened body is covered with little scopes. The fish's eyes are big. The fish's posterior nostrils are located close to the eye's anterior border.
With a sensitive fleshy outgrowth on its snout, the fire eel feels the bottom when searching for food. Two tubulated nostrils can be found at the end of this long nose appendage. The Mastacembelidae family is used to refer to the fire eel because of its uniqueness.
The fire eel has advanced air-bladder as well as tail and pectoral balances. There are two parts to the dorsal. The anal and dorsal fins are both long, narrow, and close to the caudal fin.
There are no abdominal fins on fire eels. Dark brown is the color. Along the body, there are four bright red or orange lateral stripes, which typically consist of spots and small lines. The age and conditions of the tank influence the intensity of the spots' colors. The edges of the anal, dorsal, and pectoral fins typically are red.
The body length of a fire eel in a tank is 0,5 meters (20 inches), whereas it can reach 1 m (3.3 feet) in the wild. The lifespan is at least 10 years.
