Description

Blue Eyed Red Fin Pleco L137 - 3" can be found naturally in various regions of Ro Magdalena, Colombia. They have beautiful blue eyes and a black body, making them one of the oldest plecos kept in aquariums.

Their dark black color and boney back are unique to the area where they live, making it easier for them to defend themselves from other fish. They are completely black and have a striking cylinder-shaped body.
Most of the Blue Eyed Plecos sold are wild caught. This is due to the fact that these fish do not reproduce in captivity. This fish has been bred by numerous home breeders, but no positive results have been reported.
However, these popular plecos are extremely uncommon and rarely found in pet stores. If you are lucky enough to find one, it is likely to be very expensive, which is why not many stores sell them.

II. You would love this fish because...

The Blue Eyed Pleco is a very special pleco because of its color and shape. They have two small blue eyes and a dark black body. They can swim around at night without being noticed by fish that prey on them because of their body color. These fish are a real eye-catcher in an aquarium setting. They will always catch the attention of viewers, regardless of the kind of fish they share a tank with.
Other plecos have similar external anatomy to the Blue Eyed Pleco, with minor differences in mass and size. They have a bony back and a mouth that is turned in the direction of the belly. One of their vulnerable parts is their soft, flat belly.
Blue Eyed Pleco fins, like those of all members of the Loricariidae family, are bold and threaded, but they are entirely black. The dorsal and tail fins are the largest of their eight body fins.
Even though their back plates are all black, Blue Eyed Plecos have a stunning pattern that makes this fish even more stunning. The fish's entire back is covered in patterns, but not its head or belly.

III. Is this fish species peaceful or hostile?

This species is generally peaceful, but it can be quite territorial toward its own kind and other species that are similar to it.

IV. Species compatibility

Medium sized characins, some of the more robust Corydoras catfish species, and many rheophilic cichlids.

V. How to feed this species?

Blue Eyed Red Fin Pleco L137 are not picky eaters and ought to eat anything that is offered to them. Provide them with high-quality flake or pellets for their primary diet, and supplement this with algae wafers. When they are young, they tend to choose more herbivorous foods, but as they get older, they will need more meat.
