Description

Aulonocara jacobfreibergi, commonly known as the Jacobfreibergi Peacock or simply Jacobfreibergi, is a stunning freshwater fish belonging to the Aulonocara genus of cichlids. Here are some key characteristics and care requirements for Aulonocara jacobfreibergi:

The Jacobfreibergi Peacock is known for its vibrant colors and intricate patterning. Males typically display a bright blue body with vertical bars, while females and juveniles tend to have more subdued colors. Depending on the geographic location within Lake Malawi, color variations may occur.

Aulonocara jacobfreibergi is generally peaceful compared to other cichlid species, making it suitable for community aquariums. However, males can become territorial, especially during breeding periods. Providing plenty of hiding spots and visual barriers can help mitigate aggression.

In their natural habitat, Jacobfreibergi Peacocks inhabit rocky areas along the shores of Lake Malawi. They prefer aquarium setups that mimic this environment, with plenty of rocky formations, caves, and crevices for hiding and exploring. A sandy substrate is also recommended to replicate the lake bottom.

Jacobfreibergi Peacocks are omnivorous, feeding on a variety of foods in the wild. In captivity, they can be fed a high-quality pellet or flake food formulated specifically for cichlids. Additionally, supplement their diet with occasional feedings of live or frozen foods like brine shrimp, bloodworms, and vegetable matter.

A tank of at least 55 gallons (approximately 208 liters) is recommended for a small group of Jacobfreibergi Peacocks. Adequate filtration is essential to maintain water quality, as these fish are sensitive to poor water conditions. Keep water parameters stable, with a pH around 7.5-8.5 and a temperature between 75-82°F (24-28°C).

Compatibility: Jacobfreibergi Peacocks can generally coexist with other similarly sized African cichlids and peaceful community fish species. However, avoid keeping them with overly aggressive or territorial tank mates that may intimidate or harm them.
