The Ghost Crayfish, also known as the Ghost Lobster, is a species of freshwater crustacean that belongs to the family of Cambaridae. It is a relatively small species, typically growing to about 2 to 3 inches (5 to 7.5 cm) in length, and is named for its pale, almost transparent coloration.

Ghost Crayfish are native to the southeastern United States and are commonly found in rivers, streams, and other bodies of freshwater. In the aquarium hobby, they are popular due to their interesting appearance and relatively easy care requirements.

Ghost Crayfish require a freshwater aquarium with plenty of hiding places and substrate for them to burrow in. They are generally peaceful, but can become territorial if kept in too small of a space or with too few hiding places. They prefer a temperature range of 70-75°F and a pH range of 7.0-8.0.

Ghost Crayfish are omnivorous and will eat a variety of foods, including algae, vegetables, and small meaty foods such as bloodworms or shrimp. They are also known to scavenge for leftover fish food and other debris in the aquarium.

Breeding Ghost Crayfish in captivity can be difficult, as they require very specific conditions in order to reproduce successfully. However, it is possible with careful attention to water quality, temperature, and feeding. Females will carry their eggs under their tails until they hatch, and the young will molt several times before reaching maturity.

II. You would love the fish because…

There are a few traits that make this crayfish exceptionally resilient.

First off, it can burrow like many other crayfish species can. If its environment becomes dry, it just burrows into the substrate below and remains there until the next rainy season.

Additionally, it can handle somewhat brackish (salty) water, which is highly useful in estuaries and other places that frequently flood from seawater during storms.

III. Is this fish species peaceful or hostile?

Fairly timid and calm

IV. Species compatibility

Large angelfish, Triggerfish, Dottybacks, and Puffers

V. How to feed this species?

They feed on uneaten food, detritus, live plants, dead plants, fish flakes, tablets, algae wafers, live tank mates, and at times even dead tank mates.
