There are two parts to their scientific name, Thorichthys meeki. Meeki is named after the renowned ichthyologist Seth Eugene Meek (1859\u20131914), who was the first to publish a book on Mexican freshwater fish. The name Thorichthys comes from the ancient Greek word for “leaping fish.”<\/div>\n
