The Red Lily Gourami is a color mutation of the popular Dwarf Gourami that has been captive-bred. It goes by several names, including Flame Gourami, Flame Dwarf Gourami, Red Hearth Gourami, Blood Pink Dwarf Gourami, Neon Pink Dwarf Gourami, and Blushing Gourami. The Red Lily Gourami gourami is a quiet and calm fish. If you have two of them, they will swim together.

Dwarf Gouramis are labyrinth fish, which means they breathe directly from the air through a lung-like labyrinth organ and require access to the water’s surface. If you breed this species, you will notice that their elaborate bubble nests have excellent construction instincts.

This species is normally benign and can coexist with other species that aren’t too big or aggressive. Male gouramis can become hostile when they confuse other brilliantly colored species for competition. Most bottom-dwelling species, as well as peaceful, little schooling fish, make good tank mates. Cardinal tetra and neon tetra are two possible tankmates.

II. You would love the fish because…

The popular name “dwarf” fits this fish perfectly because it is one of the smallest gouramis. Males are slightly larger than females, with a vivid orange-red body and vertical turquoise-blue stripes that extend into the fins. Females are duller, silvery blue-gray in hue, and never achieve the spectacular colors of males.

Blue/powder blue, neon, rainbow, and red/blushing are among the color variations. Powder blues are predominantly blue with a hint of red on the body. Neons have a brighter blue pattern than regular neons. Rainbows have bright orange-red bodies with blue stripes, as well as a green-gold metallic shine. Reds have almost completely red bodies with solid blue dorsal fins.

Dwarf gouramis thrive in tiny aquariums as well as communal aquariums. Gouramis are sensitive to noise and should be kept in a calm environment. Provide plenty of vegetation, particularly floating plants that cover only a portion of the water’s surface, because these labyrinth fish require surface air on both sides of the aquarium.

III. Is this fish species peaceful or hostile?

IV. Species compatibility

Larger tetras, livebearers other than fancy guppies, peaceful barbs, most danios and angelfish.

V. How to feed this species?

They feed small bug larvae, crustaceans, and other invertebrates in the wild, similar to betta fish. They are not picky eaters and will consume flakes, nano pellets, Repashy gel food, freeze-dried meals, frozen foods, and live foods.
