Irwin Soldier Catfish or the Giant Raphael Catfish is a one-of-a-kind, heavily armored catfish that lives in the Amazon and its tributaries. It is usually a gentle giant in the aquarium, ignoring most fish and being well protected from even the most aggressive tankmates.

In the wild, they mostly eat fruits, vegetables, aquatic snails, and crustaceans, but they’ll eat almost anything that sinks. They are an excellent scavenger that can assist in the management of leftover food in displays of large cichlids or predatory fish. However, they grow to enormous adult sizes and will require a minimum tank size of 180 gallons
