Pacu: The Characin family’s Serrasalminae subfamily includes Pacu. The family of fish most commonly found in South America and Africa known as the Characins is also referred to as the Tetras.<\/p>\n

Its closely related relative, the Piranha, are members of the Serrasalminae subfamily of Tetras. These South American fish resemble one another greatly in terms of both look and behaviour.<\/p>\n

Pacu are typically very large fish, with lesser species growing to a maximum length of six inches (15 centimetres), larger species growing to over two feet (60 centimetres), and record-breaking individuals topping three feet (ninety-two centimetres). Depending on the type and the level of care given to them, these fish typically survive for four to twenty years.<\/p>\n

They have large, flat bodies, and their bellies and backs are finned. In contrast to the females, the males have more vividly coloured bodies and sharper dorsal fin extensions.<\/p>\n

Solid hues like silver, black, white, and grey are most common in pacu fish. Some varieties, such as the red-bellied pacu, have vivid colours, while the black-ear pacu fish has markings.<\/p>\n

However, one of the characteristics of pacu fish is their teeth, which resemble human teeth. They have two blunt molar sets for crushing nuts and grinding up vegetation. Additionally, as they age, they take on a personality and occasionally even recognise their owners.<\/p>\n
