Yellow Shrimps:Â Neocaridina davidi var One of the most well-liked dwarf shrimp varieties in the aquarium hobby is “Yellow,” or yellow shrimp. This shrimp is selectively bred for its brilliant yellow color, as the name suggests. It is a great choice for people just starting out because it is easy to breed and doesn’t care much about water values.
You would love the fish because…
If you’ve ever considered purchasing a colony of yellow shrimp, you know that not all of them are the same. Some are almost transparent and have a hint of yellow, while others are completely opaque and have the perfect lemon hue. Why?
Similar to yellow shrimp, dwarf Neocaridina shrimp are selectively bred from brownish-grey wild shrimp to produce the current color palette. A color that is completely opaque is possible with constant selection. This is regarded as highly desirable. As a result, opaque yellow shrimp will sell for more money than translucent ones.
Yellows that are opaque are not always better or healthier; They simply look better to shrimp keepers. You don’t have to buy shrimp of high quality. Even if you don’t have much money, you could always take your time and selectively breed your colony for less transparency.
