Sultan Pleco (L264)

Sultan Pleco (L264) 2.5″-3″: These beautiful plecos belong to the Vampire Pleco family and get their name from their distinctive dentition. Their base is a light grey color with a lot of black dots. When combined with the white fin tips that young fish develop, the color combination is quite pleasing.

Sultan Plecos (Leporacanthicus joselimai, L264) has bodies of a greyish-cream color and black spots. They hold onto surfaces with their powerful sucker mouths. When they reach maturity, it is much easier to tell the difference between males and females.

Males typically have brighter coloration, larger heads, and larger dorsal fins. In order to provide the appropriate care for your Pleco, you will need to ensure that you have correctly identified it. On their dorsal and tail fins, juveniles will have white tips that will eventually wear off.

This species is generally peaceful, but it can be quite territorial toward its own kind and other species that are similar to it.

Medium sized characins, some of the more robust Corydoras catfish species, and many rheophilic cichlids.

Sultan pleco are not picky eaters and ought to eat anything that is offered to them. Provide them with high-quality flake or pellets for their primary diet, and supplement this with algae wafers. When they are young, they tend to choose more herbivorous foods, but as they get older, they will need more meat.
