Red Phantom Tetra. – An awesome buddy in your tank –
A beautiful tetra with a pretty bright reddish color all over its body.Â
There is a round black spot behind its gill plate that can easily pass off as a beauty spot.
Red Phantom Tetra (Hyphessobrycon Sweglesi) is a stunningly colorful fish that aquarists of all skill levels should consider keeping.Â
They are quiet communal tanks that house shoaling fish. Kyle Swegles, an American aquarist who was recognized for collecting this type of fish, is partially responsible for their scientific name.
A tropical freshwater fish called the Red Phantom Tetra is typically found in South America’s Orinoco River drainage basin, particularly in Colombia and Venezuela.
Red phantom tetras have bodies that are translucent but have a bronze color. Their dorsal fins’ bright crimson ends and scarlet fins give them their name. The eyes of red phantom tetras are a dark black/brown hue, and they have a black mark on their ventral side, behind their gill plates.
II. You would love the fish because…
The Red Phantom likes to be in schools and is a far more serene and lovely alternative to its similar-looking relative, the serpae tetra.
Groups of them can number from hundreds to thousands in the wild. A minimum of 12 specimens will keep them calm and active, but in the majority of home aquariums, such a feat has no chance of being accomplished.
To give the fish a sense of security, the tank should be densely vegetated or contain lots of wood.
III. Is this fish species peaceful or hostile?
A very peaceful and friendly nature.
IV. Species compatibility
Tetras, Guppies, Platys, Corydoras Catfish, and Gouramis.
V. How to feed this species? In the wild, red phantom tetras are omnivores and will consume both decaying plant matter and small animals like young shrimp, larvae, and snails. In captivity, these fish thrive on fine-grained subtropical fish flakes.
