Rathbuni Bloodfin Tetra can be found in a wide range of habitats along the Rio Paraguay tributaries in South America, which themselves undergo significant seasonal changes.
As a result, this species can handle a wide range of aquarium conditions, though avoid extremes. It will be greatly appreciated if there are a lot of shady areas created with bogwood and plant cover, including floating species.
Rathbun’s Bloodfin Tetras are shoaling species, so they should be kept in groups of six or more of their own kind, with more females than males. Because they typically do not display their best colors until they have settled into a secure planted environment, these beautiful fish are sometimes overlooked in shops.
Additionally, juveniles frequently contrast poorly with stunning mature specimens. Rathbun’s Bloodfin Tetras are generally peaceful, but they shouldn’t be trusted with fancy fish with long fins. may also be sold as Rathbun’s Bloodfin or the Green Fire Tetra.

II. You would love the fish because…
A true treasure of the small toy fish world that is frequently overlooked is the Green Fire Tetra, also known as Rathbun’s Bloodfin.
A small, green, gray fish with a hint of red toward the tail was in the dealer’s tank. It can only be described as a living jewel in a planted tank.
The maximum size of this fish is two inches. The fact that the fish’s color changes over time is what makes it so fascinating. The male has a metallic green body with a metallic blue anal fin and red lower back. The male’s anal and pelvic fin tips become brilliant white as he grows older.
The edges of his tail lobes turn white as he gets older. As he gets older, the red coloration of the tail’s base spreads to the rest of the tail. The anal and dorsal fin bases turn a deep, dark green when the male displays for spawning or dominance.
The female is more metallic greenish-blue in color and has a heavier body. Along her lateral line, she has a light blue highlight. She has the same red skin as the male but clear fins.
