Description

The Pictus Catfish, also known as Pictus Cat or Pimelodus pictus, is a popular freshwater fish among aquarists. Here's a brief overview:

Pictus Catfish are easily recognizable by their slender, elongated bodies and distinctive spotted pattern. They typically have a silver-blue coloration with black spots covering their body and fins.

They can grow up to around 5-6 inches (12-15 cm) in captivity, although some specimens may reach slightly larger sizes.

Pictus Catfish are generally peaceful and social fish, often found in groups in their natural habitat. They are active swimmers and prefer to be kept in schools of at least three individuals.

These catfish are native to South America, specifically the Amazon and Orinoco River basins. They inhabit slow-moving rivers and streams with sandy or muddy bottoms.

: To keep Pictus Catfish healthy and happy in captivity, it's important to provide them with a spacious aquarium with plenty of hiding places like caves, driftwood, and plants. They prefer slightly acidic to neutral water conditions with temperatures ranging from 72°F to 78°F (22°C to 26°C).

Pictus Catfish are omnivores and will eat a variety of foods including sinking pellets, flakes, frozen or live foods like bloodworms, brine shrimp, and small insects. They are primarily scavengers, so they will also sift through the substrate in search of food. They are generally peaceful but may prey on very small tankmates like shrimp or fry. They can be kept with other peaceful community fish of similar size, but avoid keeping them with aggressive or large predatory species.
