Ionantha Air Plant: Tillandsia Ionantha is originally from Mexico, Costa Rica, and parts of South America. It prefers warmer, humid environments, but will thrive in a dryer environment with regular misting.
There have been numerous Ionantha clones, hybrids, and cultivars developed, each with its own distinct characteristics. Ionantha, Ionantha Guatemala, Ionantha Mexican, Ionantha Rubra, Ionantha Fuego, Ionantha Peanut, Ionantha Victoriana, Ionantha Rosita, and many other varieties are common.
The Ionantha air plant is an eye-catching and the most sought-after tillandsia variety. They have become so popular in recent years that all tillandsia cultivators have concentrated their efforts on producing this variety of air plants. One of the most appealing features of the Ionantha air plant is that it is a hardy plant that requires little care when compared to other types of air plants. While they are a tough plant, they still need to be watered and misted on a regular basis. Because Ionantha varieties thrive in sunlight, they should be kept in a location that receives adequate light throughout the day (east/west facing windows are ideal).
The Ionantha variety begins as a small plant with green and silver-colored leaves. As the plant matures, the leaves begin to extend outward and turn a deeper shade of green. When the Ionantha begins to bloom, the leaves begin to change to beautiful red/pink colors that really set this variety apart.
The plant will continue to bloom until it produces a distinctive and eye-catching flower. The majority of Ionantha tillandsia varieties produce blue/purple shoots with yellow or white flowers on top. The bloom of an Ionantha is very striking, and it is a definite highlight of owning this plant.
Care Tips:
- We recommend soaking the plant once or twice a week, depending on the environment, and misting it on a regular basis.
2. Remember to water your air plants in the morning and shake off any excess water before laying them out to dry!
