Glossostigma elatinoides (commonly known as glosso) is a popular fast-growing aquarium plant used in the tank’s foreground
Glossostigma Elantinoides is a New Zealand native aquatic plant with a limited growth rate. It’s a great foreground plant that may grow into a dense carpet of green foliage if given enough light and nutrition. The leaves are small and spherical, with lovely bright green hues that complement any neutral-toned background.
To keep this plant from developing too quickly, high illumination and CO₂ infusion are required. Vertically rising thin stalks indicate a lack of lighting, while fading leaves indicate a lack of nourishment. A deficiency of CO₂ can also be indicated by thin leaves. When managed in the right conditions, this plant can grow swiftly and require regular trimming. In dry start aquariums and Wabi Kusa, this plant can grow submerged or emersed. It can be difficult to maintain this plant rooted in the substrate because it is small and has little roots. Dry start can aid in this situation by allowing the roots to attach into the substrate before flooding the tank.
Care Tips
- You must clip off the plant’s old yellow rotted off leaves in order for it to develop a short lovely green carpet.
- Additional COâ‚‚ supply (20-30 mg/l) is required at high illumination levels, and fertilizations is required on a regular basis.
