Aflame is a small to medium-sized red Echinodorus cultivar that was introduced to the market in 2005. It is particularly beautiful. It fits nicely in smaller aquariums and has the appearance of a little version of Echinodorus ‘Dschungelstar’ . Its submerged, elongate-elliptic leaves exhibit striking, very dark red colour tones.
The leaf edges are gently curled downward and have some wave to them. This cultivar, like the majority of sword plants, is often shipped by nurseries in its terrestrial (emersed) form. It frequently grows to a height of more than 40 cm as an emersed plant and has discreet, longer stalked, mostly green leaves. After being put in the aquarium, the plant’s buried leaves will emerge, revealing its full magnificence. Frequently, the submerged plant barely grows to a height of 20 cm.
Like almost other Echinodorus, ‘Aflame’ thrives in environments with a plentiful supply of macro- and micronutrients coming from the substrate. This cultivar benefits from rather harsh illumination, which also brings out its deep red colouring. Water conditions are secondary, although the presence of CO2 encourages development.
Echinodorus ‘Aflame’ offers a strong colour emphasis in the middleground and contrasts with plants that are light green, whether it is a single plant or a small, loose group. Additionally, it may be utilised as a single plant in the foreground of little tanks.
Care Tips
- Temperature of between 18 to 28 degrees Celsius.
- They will tolerate low to moderate lighting just fine, but higher lighting brings out more color in the leaves.
