The Dovii Cichlid (Parachromis dovii), sometimes known as the Wolf Cichlid, is a Central American Cichlid found in lakes and rivers in Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Honduras.Â
It is one of the most popular fish kept by a large number of people due to its unique multicolored appearance. They are true predators and an interesting cichlid species.
II. You would love the fish because…
Dovii Cichlids are brightly colored.Â
Male cichlids feature a golden-yellow color pattern on a silver background with specks of purple, black, and blue. Female cichlids are frequently yellow.
They are versatile. They can live in water in the wild as well as in aquariums. When housed in an aquarium, though, they must be given sufficient care.
Dovii Cichlids are territorial. These cichlids are considered the most vicious fish you can raise in an aquarium.Â
They are extremely aggressive, intelligent, and capable of causing significant damage to other fish.Â
Putting them in the same aquarium tank with other violent predators, such as the jaguar cichlid, is therefore not a good idea.
When properly cared for, Dovii Cichlids can live for 30 years or more.
Dovii Cichlids love to be alone in their tank. Dovii Cichlids like to live alone and only congregate when it’s time to mate.
Dovii Cichlids can reach a fairly great size of 24-30 inches when compared to other species (61-72 cm). Males are usually bigger than females.
While the Dovii Cichlid is generally easy to care for, it may not be a good choice for an inexperienced aquarist.Â
Dovii Cichlids, in general, require good care, particularly in the aquarium, to survive. To retain and care for these cichlid species, there are some important aspects concerning the Dovii Cichlid that must be understood and considered.
Dovii Cichlids, like most cichlids, are highly territorial and aggressive in character. It’s no surprise they’re dubbed wolf cichlids. When these cichlid species breed, they become much more aggressive.Â
The wolf cichlid has exceptionally keen fangs that they may use against you while working in the tank if they feel cornered or believe your hands are an adversary. As a result, one must be cautious near this fish species, as the bite of a wolf cichlid can be extremely painful.
III. Is this fish species peaceful or hostile?
Dovii Cichlids are very aggressive. They’re territorial and will attack other fish in the tank.
IV. Species compatibility
Their aggressive nature, makes one keep these fish alone. They can be kept alongside other fish, but you must start them young. When young Dovii Cichlids are grown in a tank with other Dovii Cichlids, they rarely show symptoms of hostility.
V. How to feed this species?
Cichlids eat earthworms, bloodworms, krill, and even crickets, but as omnivores, they also require plant foods. Spirulina flakes, lettuce, broccoli, or shelled peas are excellent supplements that will help your fish survive common tank infections. Feed your red devil cichlid regularly.
