The Blue Botia Loach, also known as the Yoyo Loach (Botia almorhae), is a popular freshwater fish in the aquarium hobby. It is known for its distinctive color pattern and active behavior.
They typically grow to about 4-6 inches (10-15 cm) in length. In the wild, Blue Botia Loaches are found in rivers and streams in India and Pakistan. They prefer well-oxygenated water with plenty of hiding spots.
They need a tank of at least 30 gallons, with a preference for larger tanks if kept in groups. Provide plenty of hiding spots with rocks, caves, and plants. They thrive in slightly acidic to neutral pH (6.0-7.5) and a temperature range of 75-86°F (24-30°C).
Blue Botia Loaches are social and should be kept in groups of at least three to five individuals. They are active and curious, often exploring the tank and hiding during the day.
They are omnivores and enjoy a varied diet, including high-quality flake or pellet food, live or frozen foods (such as bloodworms and brine shrimp), and vegetables.
Generally peaceful, they can be kept with other non-aggressive fish. However, they may become territorial with their own species or other bottom dwellers if not provided with enough space.
With proper care, Blue Botia Loaches can live for 10 years or more.
These loaches are a great addition to a community tank and can help control snail populations. Their playful nature and striking appearance make them a favorite among aquarists.
