Amatitlania sp. ‘Honduran Red Point’ is a captivating species of freshwater cichlid from Central America, specifically found in Honduras. Often mistaken for the more well-known Convict Cichlid due to its similar appearance, the Honduran Red Point has become increasingly popular among aquarists for its unique coloration and relatively manageable temperament.
The Honduran Red Point cichlid is typically blue-gray with a subtle iridescence and, as the name suggests, hints of red or orange on its fins, particularly on the dorsal and caudal fins. Males tend to be more colorful and larger than females.
They generally grow up to 4-5 inches (10-12 cm) in length, making them a bit smaller than their Convict Cichlid relatives.
Compared to other cichlids, they are considered semi-aggressive but can be kept in community tanks with other robust or similarly tempered species. However, they can become more territorial during breeding.
Omnivorous, they enjoy a varied diet of high-quality flakes, pellets, and live or frozen foods like brine shrimp and bloodworms.
