Description

The Tiger Nerite Snail, scientifically known as Neritina turrita, is a popular freshwater aquarium snail species.

As their name suggests, Tiger Nerite Snails have striking patterns resembling tiger stripes. These patterns vary in intensity and color, ranging from dark brown to black, with lighter stripes. They have a conical shell with a pointed spire.

They typically grow to about 1 inch (2.5 cm) in diameter.

Tiger Nerite Snails are native to Southeast Asia, particularly found in freshwater habitats such as rivers, streams, and ponds.

These snails are known to be peaceful and are often kept in aquariums to help control algae growth. They are herbivores and primarily feed on algae, biofilm, and leftover fish food.

Tiger Nerite Snails prefer aquariums with stable water parameters. They thrive in freshwater with a neutral to slightly alkaline pH, and temperatures between 72°F to 78°F (22°C to 25°C). Providing ample hiding places and surfaces for algae growth is beneficial for their well-being.

Tiger Nerite Snails are compatible with most freshwater fish and invertebrates. However, they may not be suitable for aquariums with aggressive or predatory species that might harm them.

Tiger Nerite Snails are prized not only for their aesthetic appeal but also for their ability to help maintain a balanced ecosystem within the aquarium by consuming algae and keeping surfaces clean.
