Pepper Cory
Description
Peppered Corydoras has a distinctive peppered or mottled appearance. Its body is typically covered with small black spots or speckles, which are scattered across a pale or light gray base color. This speckled pattern gives them their common name.
Peppered Corydoras are relatively small, typically growing to around 2 to 2.5 inches (5 to 6.5 centimeters) in length. They have a compact and somewhat rounded body shape with a downward-facing mouth that is characteristic of catfish species.
The Peppered Corydoras has several pairs of barbels, which are sensitive sensory organs located around its mouth. These barbels assist the fish in locating food on the substrate. The dorsal fin, located on the back, is relatively tall and often has a translucent or slightly reddish appearance. The other fins, such as the pectoral and caudal fins, are typically translucent.
II. You would love the fish because…
Peppered Corydoras are peaceful and social fish that are often kept in groups. They are known for their bottom-dwelling behavior, constantly foraging and searching for food on the aquarium substrate. They are also known to exhibit playful behavior and are compatible with a variety of other peaceful fish species.
Peppered Corydoras are native to South America, specifically Argentina and Brazil. They inhabit slow-moving rivers, streams, and tributaries with sandy or muddy bottoms. In the wild, they often live in shoals or groups, and replicating this social structure in the aquarium is beneficial for their well-being.
Peppered Corydoras prefer a well-maintained aquarium with plenty of hiding spots, such as caves, plants, or driftwood. They are adaptable and can tolerate a range of water parameters, but it is recommended to keep the water temperature between 72-78°F (22-26°C) and maintain good water quality.
