Description

The Thai Micro Spider Crab, scientifically known as Limnopilos naiyanetri, is a tiny freshwater crab species that has gained popularity in the aquarium hobby.

As the name suggests, the Thai Micro Spider Crab is indeed small, with a carapace width of around 1 to 1.5 centimeters (0.4 to 0.6 inches). This petite size makes them suitable for smaller aquarium setups.

They have a spider-like appearance due to their long legs and relatively small body. Their coloration can vary, often ranging from brown to green, which helps them blend into their natural environment.

These crabs are native to Thailand, where they inhabit slow-moving or stagnant waters, such as streams, rice paddies, and swampy areas.

When keeping Thai Micro Spider Crabs in an aquarium, it's essential to replicate their natural environment. A well-planted tank with hiding spots like small caves, crevices, and plants will make them feel secure. The water temperature should be maintained around 75-82°F (24-28°C), and the pH should be slightly acidic to neutral.

These crabs are generally peaceful and spend most of their time exploring their surroundings, foraging for food, and seeking hiding spots. They are also known for their climbing abilities, which adds an interesting dimension to their behavior.

Thai Micro Spider Crabs are scavengers and omnivores. They will eat a variety of foods, including algae, detritus, and small particles of food. Providing a balanced diet of quality crab or shrimp pellets, small live or frozen foods like brine shrimp, and occasional vegetable matter is recommended.

IV. Species compatibility

These crabs are generally compatible with peaceful fish and other small aquatic creatures. However, it's important to avoid keeping them with larger, aggressive fish or animals that might see them as prey..

V. How to feed this species?

Thai Micro Spider Crabs are scavengers and omnivores. They will eat a variety of foods, including algae, detritus, and small particles of food. Providing a balanced diet of quality crab or shrimp pellets, small live or frozen foods like brine shrimp, and occasional vegetable matter is recommended.
