New Tiger Pleco — Panaqolus tankei L398
Description
New Tiger Pleco — Panaqolus tankei L398 2.5" is a new species from Brazil, was first described by collector Christian Andreas Cramer in 2016.
The Rio Xingu basin's colorful and tranquil pleco appears to be unaffected by the Belo Monte Dam, which is linked to the extinction of numerous species.
The L398 Tankei Tiger is an active scavenger who needs driftwood in the fish tank. These guys only reach 5 inches in height and, according to reports, can survive in an aquarium.
II. You would love this fish because...
The L398 is a beautiful Panaqolus genus "tiger" pleco that was only recently scientifically identified as P. tankei. L398, which comes from the clear, fast-moving waters of the lower Xingu, is usually found in and around large driftwood patches and sunken trees in the wild.
It should be kept in an aquarium with plenty of driftwood and other nutritious sinking foods like Repashy's xylivore formula gel diet because it is a wood eater like its close relatives (xylivore).
III. Is this fish species peaceful or hostile?
This species is generally peaceful, but it can be quite territorial toward its own kind and other species that are similar to it.
IV. Species compatibility
Medium sized characins, some of the more robust Corydoras catfish species, and many rheophilic cichlids.
V. How to feed this species?
New Tiger Plecos are not picky eaters and ought to eat anything that is offered to them. Provide them with high-quality flake or pellets for their primary diet, and supplement this with algae wafers. When they are young, they tend to choose more herbivorous foods, but as they get older, they will need more meat.
