Description

Glossostigma elatinoides is a popular aquatic plant in the hobby of planted aquariums. It is commonly known as "Glosso" among aquarium enthusiasts.

Glosso is a low-growing carpeting plant with small, bright green leaves. It forms a dense mat over the substrate when grown under optimal conditions. The leaves are typically less than 1 centimeter in size.

This plant is native to areas in New Zealand, Australia, and Tasmania, where it grows submerged in shallow waters, particularly in streams and marshes.

Glosso requires high light intensity to thrive and often does best under CO2 supplementation. It prefers soft to moderately hard water and nutrient-rich substrates. Regular trimming is necessary to maintain its low carpeting form.

Care Tips

Regular maintenance, including pruning and trimming, is essential to keep Glosso healthy and to prevent it from overgrowing and shading out other plants. Additionally, maintaining stable water parameters and nutrient levels is crucial for its long-term success.

Propagation: Glosso propagates through runners, which spread horizontally across the substrate. These runners produce new plants along their length, allowing the carpet to expand over time.
