Description
The Red Head Tapajos Geophagus is one of the most beautiful and sought-after South American eartheaters. As it matures, its head develops a spectacular red to orange-red colour, contrasting beautifully with its silvery body and iridescent blue, green and gold markings.
Native to the Rio Tapajós basin of Brazil, this peaceful Geophagus is famous for its natural habit of sifting sand through its mouth and gills while searching for food. Watching a group of Tapajos explore and sift through the substrate is one of the most enjoyable behaviours in a South American aquarium.
