Blue Spiny Lobster
Description
Blue Spiny Lobster: This cool-looking creature is prize-worthy for hobbyists who are willing to dedicate a setup just for them.
Blue spiny lobsters make beautiful and fun-loving pets that can live long in perfect aquarium setups.
Although lobsters sold for aquariums come in a variety of sizes, their personalities are often pretty similar. Although several larger species are occasionally available, the term "Reef Lobsters" (genus Enoplometopus) is most usually used to describe the smaller species (genera Palinurellus and Panulirus, among others).
Since they are omnivores, lobsters will eat both plant materials and meaty scavenged foods like fish and invertebrates. Smaller lobsters are typically not a serious concern unless they are malnourished, however, this depends on the size of the lobster. Although they will consume some leftover food, you should regularly target-feed them with small meaty feed.
II. You would love the fish because…
The Blue Spiny Lobster is also called the Painted Spiny Lobster or Painted Crayfish. They flaunt gorgeous blue stripes on their legs and green and blue carapace and big claws.
They are very peaceful fish, however, they may bother the sessile invertebrates and corals. If housed in a properly set up aquarium with lots of live rock hiding places and a good sandy substrate.
These pretty creatures love to perform a whipping dance in the aquarium by moving/whipping these antennas back and forth with audible sounds.
A very easy lobster to take care of and maintain.
III. Is this fish species peaceful or hostile?
Fairly timid and calm
IV. Species compatibility
Large angelfish, Triggerfish, Dottybacks, and Puffers
V. How to feed this species?
They feed on uneaten food, detritus, live plants, dead plants, fish flakes, tablets, algae wafers, live tank mates, and at times even dead tank mates.
VI. Care Tips
Generally speaking (with a few exceptions), rock and spiny lobsters of the genus Panulirus aren't advised for the mixed reef/invertebrate or fish-only display. However, given a dedicated tank and the right care, these species are highly respectable aquarium specimens and may form entertaining displays. Just make sure you understand what you're getting into before buying, as these lobsters frequently become victims of impulsive buying.
